What is K-MOOC?
K-MOOC is the abbreviation for the Carpathian Basin Online Education Center, a free online learning platform. Here you can find courses across many different fields—from computer science through engineering all the way to the humanities. The biggest advantage is that you can use it completely free of charge, regardless of which university you attend, or even whether you are in higher education at all.
The idea is simple: you can learn anywhere, anytime, at your own pace, and you don’t have to worry that not completing a course will have any negative consequences. It’s a perfect opportunity to try new areas, expand your knowledge, or even get ahead in your studies.
1. Registration and login
If you are an Óbuda University student:

If you are an Óbuda University student, you have it especially easy! To log in, you can use the same Neptun code and password you use for the Neptun system. There’s no need for a separate registration or a new password—just enter your usual credentials and you’re in.
If you are not an Óbuda University student:

If you’re new to the system or you need a detailed guide to registration, check this page: https://edti.uni-obuda.hu/2025/08/megujult-k-mooc/ — it walks you through the process step by step.
2. Enrolling in courses

Courses run in semester-based sessions, generally aligned with higher-education semesters. On the K-MOOC homepage, you can always check exactly when the enrollment period is.
After logging in, under the “Explore courses” (“Kurzusok felfedezése”) menu item you’ll see all active courses you can enroll in for the given semester. On the cards you can see the start date and a short description. If you want more detailed information, click the course title.

When you open a course, you can see whether you’re already enrolled. If not, during the enrollment period the “Enroll” (“Beiratkozás”) button will appear. Here you can read in more detail what the selected course is about, what the completion requirements are, and who teaches it. If you have any subject-matter questions, don’t hesitate to contact the instructor.

Important periods you should pay attention to:
Each course has its own timeline; you can find it on the K-MOOC homepage:
- Enrollment period: The time window when enrolling in (and dropping) courses is available.
- Study/completion period: You must work through the materials and complete the assignments by this time.
- Instructor grading deadline: By this date, the instructor reviews your work completed during the study period and sends us the grades.
- End of grade-entry request period:* A very important deadline. You can request grade entry for your completed course until this date.
- Grade-entry period:* This is when your grade is recorded in the Neptun system (for Óbuda University students).
*Applies only to Óbuda University students
You can always find the current dates on the K-MOOC homepage. It’s worth checking them regularly so you don’t miss anything.
The good news is that until the enrollment deadline you can add and drop courses at any time—so feel free to browse, try things out, and keep only the ones you’re truly interested in.
IMPORTANT warning for students taking their final exam!
If you’re taking your final exam, pay special attention to which semester you schedule course completion for! Although we do everything we can to have grades ready on time, unfortunately we cannot guarantee in every case that grade entry will happen in time. It would be terrible if obtaining your diploma depended on this, so please don’t leave completing K-MOOC courses to the very last minute.
If you do not have an active student status at the university—e.g., you take a passive semester, you have completed your coursework (absolutorium), or you have already obtained your diploma—your grade will NOT be recorded in the Neptun system! In this case, you can only download and keep the credit certificate.
3. Learn at your own pace – that’s the freedom!

After you enroll in your course, you’ll have access to all learning materials. In some courses you need to progress through the uploaded materials in order; in others you can navigate freely.
- The materials are available online, so you’ll need an internet connection and a browser (on a computer, tablet, or phone).
- You cannot download the materials; you must access them online.
- Important: course materials remain available only until the end of the current semester! After the course closes, you can no longer view the materials, although your results will still remain and can be looked up later.
You can work through courses at your own pace, but you must finish by the end of the completion period at the latest, because after the deadline the course closes and you won’t be able to complete tests or submit assignments.
4. Taking exams – online, conveniently

All assessments in K-MOOC courses take place online. This means you don’t need to go anywhere or reserve a seat—whether you’re at home, in the library, or on the go, you can take a test or submit an assignment even from your phone.
Important!
- Always read the exam requirements in advance! For some assessments you may need additional tools: a calculator, paper and pen for notes or drawings, or even a separate application.
- Ensure calm conditions! You are responsible for taking exams under suitable conditions. A stable internet connection, a quiet environment, a charged device—make sure these are in place ahead of time.
- Device issues: If you can’t take an exam due to a technical problem (phone battery died, internet outage, etc.), unfortunately this generally cannot be taken into account. Always have a backup plan: keep a charger handy, have mobile data as a fallback, and if possible a second device you can log in from.
- Time management: Tests and exams usually have a time limit. Check in advance how much time you have, and plan so you can spend time on every task.
5. Have a question? Ask away!
If you have a subject-matter question about the learning materials, don’t hesitate to contact the course instructor. Most courses have a forum or messaging option where you can ask questions. Instructors are there to help you—whether it’s a hard-to-understand part of the material, solving an assignment, or simply figuring out what to do next.
And if you have trouble using the platform (can’t find something, a page won’t load, etc.), you can also ask the administrators for help.
6. Credit certificate and grade entry
Handling the credit certificate differs fundamentally depending on whether you are an Óbuda University student.
If you are an Óbuda University student:
In the previous system, requesting the credit certificate also served as the request for Neptun grade entry for Óbuda University students. In the new system we separated these: you can request Neptun grade entry by ticking the relevant grade/credit request declaration; and you can freely download the credit-certificate document at any time for courses you have successfully completed. Please note that Óbuda University cannot accept the credit certificate for its own programs—so as an Óbuda University student you only need it if you want to have the completed course accredited at another institution. If you want your result entered for your Óbuda University program, use the Neptun grade-entry request declaration.

Under the Dashboard (Irányítópult), you’ll find the declaration option for each course. For every subject you can decide separately whether you want to request grade entry. During the grade-entry period, after you have requested grade entry and the instructor has reviewed the results, your grade will appear in your Neptun system.
What if you are studying in multiple programs at the same time?
In a single semester, you can have a completed subject recognized in only one program at a time. In that case, please always let us know which of your programs the course should be assigned to, because we can’t see where you need it more. If you also want the course recognized in another program, you can enroll again and complete it in the next semester.
Attention!
If you don’t request grade entry on time, you can only do so later by submitting a dean’s petition with a well-founded justification. If your grade was not entered, you have 15 days after the end of the exam period to notify us. After that, requesting grade entry in Neptun is again only possible via a dean’s petition.
If you are a student at another university, or you are not in higher education:

For you, only downloading the credit certificate is available, which you can then use at your own institution or for other purposes.
When can you download it?
After the grading period, the download button will appear on the interface under the Dashboard (Irányítópult).
What is the requirement?
You must earn at least a 2 (satisfactory / pass) grade in the course. If you don’t reach this level, unfortunately the download option will not appear.
What should you do with the downloaded certificate?
You can take the downloaded PDF document to the study office or education directorate at your university and ask them to recognize the course and record it in their system. In general it can be recognized as a free elective, but this depends on the position and rules of the given study office.

Yes, every K-MOOC course is completely free.
Can someone who doesn’t attend university enroll too?
Yes. K-MOOC courses are available to anyone who wants to learn.
Do I get a certificate for completing the course?

What happens if I don’t do well in the course?
No problem—K-MOOC courses don’t come with any obligations. If it didn’t go the way you wanted, you can try again next semester. 🙂
I didn’t request grade entry in time—can it be done later?
A grade can be entered retroactively into Neptun only via a dean’s petition, so please pay close attention to deadlines. You can access the downloadable PDF at any time, but Óbuda University study offices do not accept this as a substitute for Neptun grade entry.
Can I replace a core course with a K-MOOC course?
In short: no.
At Óbuda University, you cannot replace a core course with a free elective. You can have a subject accepted only if its learning material differs by at least 75% from the subject you have already taken.
Is it counted as a mandatory elective or a free elective?
In general, it can be recognized as a free elective, but this may vary by faculty, program, and even specialization. Always ask the specialization coordinator how the subject you want to take will be classified.
Will the course remain accessible after it closes?
After the course closes, you can no longer view the course materials; however, your results remain and can be looked up later.
If I completed the course earlier, can I enroll again?
Yes, you can enroll in courses as many times as you like, whether you completed them or not. Keep in mind, however, that within a single program you can have a given subject recognized only once.
